Barbara Sang

Barbara Sang is a licensed psychologist who has worked in independent practice in New York City for over three decades. Sang has been involved in lesbian activism since the late 1960s and is a co-founder of the Homosexual Community Counseling Centre (1971), helping from 1974-78 to develop its journal. Sang’s research and innovations in psychotherapy for lesbians have been described as “groundbreaking” and she was one of the earliest psychologists to take an affirmative approach despite pathological models being dominant at the time. She is one of the editors of Lesbians at Midlife: The Creative Transition and also enjoys nature photography.
