Cataloging Manual
The LHA digital collections on this site thus far have been documented by Pratt Info School students in a variety of different methods and following different standards. The aim of the Cataloging Manual document is to standardize future digitizing and cataloging efforts, and instruct any projects to update old records to comply with the new standards documented herein, should they be undertaken.
This document is meant to be referenced and updated as a living document to record and remember the decisions made in cataloging new materials, and the rationale behind how those materials have been described. This is also meant to be a collaborative effort between catalogers and the Lesbian Herstory Archive’s users. In offering cataloging transparency and consistency, we hope to improve the access of materials.
This document is developed and used by Pratt School of Information students and is not created by the Lesbian Herstory Archive’s in-house catalogers. While it may be inspired by the LHA’s cataloging practices, this document does not represent the LHA’s explicit opinion on how audiovisual materials should be cataloged.
