Anne Mackay
Anne MacKay was born in 1928 and attended her first Daughters of Bilitis meeting in 1969. She taught theatre classes at both Dalton and Horace Mann and retired from teaching in 1992. Due to her love of theatre, she organized a large number of lesbian musicals over the years. On occasion her community musicals helped raise money for a number of LGBT organizations, including the Lesbian Herstory Archives. MacKay also edited two books: Wolf Girls at Vassar: Lesbian and Gay Experiences 1930-1990 (St. Martin’s Press, 1993) and She Went A-Whaling: The Whaling Journal of Martha Brown (Oysterponds Historical Society, 1993). She lived in New York City before retiring to Orient, New York, where she was an active member of the community. She died in 2012 at age 84. Her obituary can be read here.
