Sonny Wainwright (1930-1985) was a writer, educator, and lesbian and women’s rights activist involved in the Feminist Writers’ Guild and Gay Women’s Alternative. The need for support in marginalized groups is an undercurrent as she recounts coming out in 1948, the Greenwich Village Bar Scene and the events following with her marriage, career, partners, and illness. Wainwright’s journals while battling Breast Cancer were published in 1984 under the title Stage V: A Journal Through Illness.
